Health professionals agree that breastfeeding will be the optimal approach to feed an infant. Breast milk is intended exclusively for human babies. It contains the right level of nutrients, in the correct proportion, giving a baby anything he requires to not simply survive but thrive. (The Canadian Pediatric Society, however, recommends giving breastfed infants a vitamin D supplement.)
